The non-open-source AOLserver 2.3.3 has SSL support, and an SSL module is
included with the distribution. I haven't played around with the
open-source version much aside from compiling and verifying basic
functionality, but AFAIK someone is still working on building in OpenSSL.

Tcl is easy. You can learn it (the entire Tcl core syntax) in a couple of
hours. The AOLserver API you can learn a little at a time, as you need to.
I have some quick-and-dirty sample code on my website, covering what you
will end up using 90% of the time.

If you really feel you must have Your Very Own Tcl Book, have your boss buy
the one by Brent Welch. Then photocopy the first 80 pages for yourself.

The docs on www.aolserver.com are good, but I expect that the docs for
2.3.3 are more complete than 3.0. If you have a lot of questions, you
should ask on the http://community.aolserver.com bulletin boards, or on
Philip Greenspun's photo.net bboards.

You want to go to http://photo.net/wtr to learn about database-backed web
sites. Very little of what is there is AOLserver specific. Read Philip and
Alex's Guide to Web Publishing (available online at
http://photo.net/wtr/thebook/ ... I have an autographed dead-trees copy).
It's not available locally, but I saw one last copy of Philip's first book,
Database Backed Websites, at Octagon.

The Arsdigita Community System is a complete toolkit for developing
community websites. The data model is built for Oracle, and is glued
together with AOLserver's Tcl API. There are a bunch of guys working on a
version using Postgres instead of Oracle. There's a complete list of
modules at http://photo.net/doc/
