actually of my two quantum drives, one is still ok, the other one has bad
sectors, but it's 4 years old.

yes. because they are generally server-class drives.

activestate is freeware. www.activestate.com.
you can get 8.4GB drives in the 4000 price range now. fujitsu brand, or
seagate U8, i prefer fujitsu (even if they are made in the Philippines)
because they are more sturdily built than equivalent seagates. or the
maxtor diamondmax nova 7200rpm 10GB drive, it's only 5200.
