# Btw, my previous company is working with ETPI. May mga na-setup na silang
# ADSL Mux.
# They have tested it also using adsl modems for the dial-up. My former
# colleague told that they were able to get as high as 5mb downstream at 5km
# and roughly 2mb for the upstream.

The only problem with xDSL is the service (and bandwidth) limited by the
copper wire distance between the subscriber and the headend. Also, the
"guaranteed" bandwidth in xDSLs is really true, but due to the
competition with data-on-cable providers, DSL providers had to device a
scheme so their pricing model is not far off with their data-on-cable
competitors. DSL providers are now using cascaded DSLAM (DSL ?
Multiplexer) which has brought down the subscription price quite
significantly. (But in effect, they are shared bandwidth as well.) This
is also the reason why the maximum bandwidth attainable by a subscriber is
limited by the copper wire distance and the number of DSLAMs cascading
between the DSL modem and the headend.

stay cool.
