one way to test if your nic is working is by connecting it to another pc.
You'll need another pc to test it. You have to statically assign an ip
address to the nic at yung isang pc din. With this setup, you will need a
crossover cable if you will be connecting it directly to the other pc. O
kaya, if you have a hub, just use straight utp cable. Assign the two
machines with same ip network. If you are not able ping, then there could
be a problem with IRQ or IO base address. If you were able to ping it, then
it means na your nic is properly configured. Next thing you have to do is
to configure the nic upon boot to use PROTO=BOOTP. This can be set in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0. Yung sa isang nic naman, if are
planning to use two nics, then assign it an RFC1918 compliant ip address. In
case you don't know,
class A: 10.0.0.0 to 10.255.255.255 /8
class B: 172.16.0.0. to 172.31.255.255 /12
class C: 192.168.0.0. to 192.168.255.255 /16
