Hello squid gurus,
My squid hardware specifications:
AMD 700Mhz, 384 Mb RAM, 2 X 9 Gb UW SCSI hardisk

squid.conf:
cache_mem 50 Mb, cache_dir 5 Gb

top output:
Mem: 387516K av, 384412K used, 3104K free, 15508K shrd, 249864K
buff
Swap: 136512K av, 892K used, 135620K free 21080K cached

PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT LIB %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND

Problem:
My squid still uses a lot of memory. When I increased the cache_dir from 5
to 13Gb the swap free became Zero (0). My squid used all my swap space
(Zero free swap). It was very slow.

My cache_dir is only 5Gb right now. As you can see the top output above,
it still used 892K swap. I don't want squid to use my swap. It should be
zero (0) used. Also, I want to increase cache_dir to 13Gb, so that I
can maximize the cache_dir. Can you recommend using alternate malloc
library? What's the best thing I should do? Your help would be much
appreciated.
