hi. just a question. i run my desktop as enlightenment without gnome by
putting "enlightenment" in my .xinitrc. what am i running then? just
enlightenment? why does gnome need enlightenment then? or does it?

IMHO,

Gnome is more radical and inconsistent as a GUI than KDE.
KDE is predictable, static and boring, just like the windows GUI is.

Take your pick.
