gnome is a desktop manager which doesnt have a window manager
(enlightenment, windowmaker, afterstep, etc..) thats why it needs one. i
used to use gnome but it eats up a lot of memory so i dumped it. now im
using either enlightenment or windowmaker only.
kde is also a desktop manager which has a built-in window manager. i just
hate the look, its like windows. :)
for low-end pcs, i suggest windowmaker. it is stable and looks good too.
