By manually partitioning your hard drive, I mean to say if you used
something other than what was run by the installation script on your Linux
CD.  In RH an installation script runs fdisk or Disk Druid so you can make
your partitions.  If you made your partitions using this
install-script-invoked tools then they will also automatically format it
and make it active.

In my case I used tomsrtbt, a linux on a floppy distribution, to make my
partitions and then I installed Corel 1.1.  Corel's install scripts,
however, did not automatically format and turn on my swap partition.  I had
to:

mkswap /dev/"swap partition"
swapon

to format and activate my swap partition.
