This is interesting. Yes, I know that Linux starting
I-dont-know-what-kernel-version have md support, plus there's userland
software available. I haven't had the chance to experiment with it as a
means of adding space to a particular partition, though. Have you actually
tried this out?

Just in case things are fuzzy, Ina's case is as follows:

/dev/hda4, 10GB, mounted to /var/mail
/dev/sdb1, 10GB, as additional space for /var/mail

This of course, without doing the 'traditional' softlinking.
