Pretty old hardware they have there...

Ok, now that would be pushing it even with a licensed Windows
installation.

I'd suggest the lightest of all the major distros, which would be
slackware. However, I don't think the latest distro would be very
friendly with their hardware since there are a lot of bells and whistles
already with the 10.x Slack.

I'd suggest they get a better box so that they can do what they want
with the computer. Music isn't really too much a problem with the
hardware, but the other specs are quite problematic.
