I only suggested the people's pc for *only* the firewall+VPN. Your database server should be separate for your firewall+vpn box. The linksys alternative is a good option, if it already provides the basics you require (firewall & VPN capabilities). As for servers, if the brand name ones are too high for your taste, there's a recent thread in this list about do-it-yourself servers you may want to read. Or you may want to look at alternative brands like Acer.
