i had the impression that the thread context is in cheaplandia where
telco-class scenarios are irrelevant. kaya nga i was even checking out
linux against a "2nd-hand bare-minimum 3640". is there a telco very so
into getting 2nd-hand router stuff proably without after-sales service
agreements?

of course if you want to laugh and make me look stupid, be my guest and
take things out of context. =)

i went overboard with the RAM department.
my intent was simply to show how economical a 1G linux router is vs
what a 3640 could offer ram-wise. the BGP routes example was there
because BGP routes afaik would be the next thing occupying a router's
memory largely.
