And why should it bother you that it boots so slowly? How often should you be rebooting the server? It's a matter of pride for most system administrators to see to it that their machines *never* need to be rebooted, and that they have uptimes measured in years. > Siya nga pala, I visited the redhat.com website sabi: > Fedora, is for - Developer or highly technical enthusiast using Linux > in non-critical computing environments > > Ibig bang sabihin nito ay talagang hindi advisable or recommended for > business use ang Fedora, like caching proxy server? Depends on how critical the proxy server is to your business operations. If it's a crucial 24x7 fixture that is constantly used and for which any downtime would be unacceptable, I think Fedora would not be suitable. You'd be better off using an enterprise GNU/Linux. But I seriously doubt that these are your requirements. I imagine that Fedora should be sufficient for your needs. In general, the horrendously expensive enterprise GNU/Linux distros such as RHEL and SLES are suitable for situations where: 1. You need the enterprise support contract, which is the major cost involved in actually getting the distribution. 2. You're supporting finicky proprietary software running on GNU/Linux such as Oracle or SAP. 3. You have enterprise hardware such as an IBM xSeries or HP Proliant servers, or SAN disk arrays for which manufacturer-supported Linux drivers only exist for SLES or RHEL. If any or all of these conditions is true for you, then RHEL or SLES is the best way to go. If only #3 is true, then perhaps CentOS or White Box might do just as well. -- While there is a lower class, I am in it, while there is a criminal element, I am of it, and while there is a soul in prison, I am not free. http://stormwyrm.blogspot.com/ _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
