Hi,

I'm having problems compiling the linux kernel on Debian Sarge.  I keep
getting the error message:  "Kernel Panic. Unable to load the root
filesystem. Unknown block (3,1)".  I've tried using both XFS and ext3
for my root partition, at the same time specifying modular and built-in
options for the appropriate filesystem without success.  I've even tried
modular compilation on all filesystem modules and creating an initrd
image for the newly compiled kernel version, also without success.  Hope
someone can shed some light.  Thanks.

OS:   Debian Sarge
Kernel:   2.6.8
HW:  Testing on a regular PC...Target HW, once I get the kernel
compilation to work,  will actually be an old Cobalt Qube 3 server

From,
Carlos Yu
