My response is off-topic. No matter what Linux distro or OS you're
going to use, to have a "decent" desktop of any kind, you might need
more than 128MB. If cost is a problem, you might want to look for 2nd
hand/used SODIMM memory modules for your laptop. It could only be a
problem if your laptop's memory is not upgradable or if your laptop
uses proprietary memory modules.

Maybe something like Ice or Flux or Wmaker for the desktop?
