I heavily suggest against doing this, unless you're willing to tweak, test, patch, do regression testing and code on the vanilla kernel, or it's an absolute necessity as you can't wait for your vendor to support your hardware or do a fix. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do" can also be aptly said for your distro of choice - maximize the use of the packages and tools available to you. Your distro vendor most certainly has reasons why they bundle patches to the kernel - and that is to stabilize it further for suitable use to your distro, as the kernel from kernel.org would do have its own set of bugs. Your distro would most certainly bundle a "bloated" kernel as they aim to support the maximum range of hardware - something you'd really appreciate when the time comes you upgrade your hardware piece by piece. -- Paolo Alexis Falcone [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List [email protected] (#PLUG @ irc.free.net.ph) Read the Guidelines: http://linux.org.ph/lists Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
