Google may be open-source based but that doesn't make them an open
source company, not by a long shot. They may have clusters of thousands
of systems running GNU/Linux, but their product is really their non-open
source search and ad software, making them just as much of a proprietary
software company as Microsoft.

Funny, just last saturday I watched The Corporation[0] as part of my
Philo173 class at the UP Open Uni. From that film, it is suggested
that all companies have a psychotic tendency to do Unspeakable
Evil(TM) and that part of a company's daily struggle is about juggling
the internal torrents and disturbances that may threaten to turn even
a benevolent corporation into the next Fascist power.

That said, I'd suppose that such a struggle is a risk worth taking,
and that hopefully in the end a company learns to grow and help
humanity in the process, whether it be using proprietary or open
source software. Google is definitely not completely open sourced,
but it does seem to make itself behave in a manner that is acceptable
to both closed- and open-source partisans...

Cheers,

Zakame
