The lack of a major marketing effort here in the Philippines is one key
factor. The only major forms of "brand" presence and/or promotional and
advertising of Open-source has been web-based (e.g. blogs, tech forums,
etc.). If there were marketing efforts in other media forms, it is not
making much progress.

Subject: [plug] Question for the group...

All,

I have a question for the group which may, or may not have come up in
the past, but what the heck...I'll ask anyway.

We all know that the Linux and Open Souce community is a global thing,
made possible by the Internet. However, I'm wondering what, if
anything, we here in the US can do to help further the adoption of
Linux and Open Source within the Philippines.

I read the article about MS offering a stripped-down version of Windows
@ half the price of regular Windows (which, to my knowledge, is still
100% more expensive than most Linux distros) and how GMA had attended
the event in Cebu with Microsoft.

So I have to ask...is there anything that we here in the US can do to
help in the cause in the Philippines? We're all in the same boat
here...wanting to further Open Source and Linux world-wide. Maybe
there is something that we can do to assist you.

Ideas???

Dave
