By "can't handle", do you mean Linux can't just use the RAID
functionality but can use it as a regular SATA controller? If that's
the case, why would you want to use the inferior built-in RAID when
the software RAID is much much better.

However, if you mean you can't even use it as a regular hard disk
controller at all, well, then that really sucks.
