bind is not slow. On my linksys NSLU2, it's less than a 1Mb, and takes less than 2Mb of RAM. And if it's slow, guess what the DNS root servers are using?

i agree with jijo.. bind is just too slow and big of a software project.. you're better of using djbdns' dnscache for dns resolver.
