Thanks for the input. Can anyone vouch for the durability of an Acer?
or those other not so well-known brands? I'm thinking of picking an
Acer n lang because may pre-installed linux na ...

I'm working on a project that has assigned me an Aspire 5570Z that
refuses (so far) to run anything but Vista (Home Basic). Not to worry,
I refuse to give up on it :) OTOH, I do have to give it back about the
3rd week of June and the true owners may not take kindly to
"unfamiliar" software so my motivation isn't that strong.

Anyway, this particular model is less than PhP50K. Having used it for
only two or three weeks, I can't vouch for its durability but you can
be sure I won't be torturing it in retaliation for its Windows-only
hardware. It's one heavy bugger though and I wouldn't carry it around
unless I really have to. It also heats up, and even heated up my
cellphone which I left beside it. Power has three settings: power
saver, which is meant for unplugged (ie, battery) use; balanced, w/c
as the name sort of implies balances power and performance; and
performance, w/c sacrifices battery power for performance. I can tell
you that the last setting doesn't exaggerate about sacrificing battery
power -- I unplugged it for maybe two minutes to move it from one room
to the next, and that drained approximately 2% off the battery.

Anything else you want to know? Maybe offlist, since I haven't managed
to install a FOSS OS on it yet, although I do have OpenOffice.org on
it.
