I use dirvish for disk-based backups, it's also based on rsync. Been using it for a year now (give or take a few days), it has saved my hide a lot of times during that time. Restoring a single file is as easy as a few taps on the "enter" key (in mc). There are even scripts for automating daily backups and sending reports when it's unable to backup some hosts.
