I use dirvish for disk-based backups, it's also based
on rsync. Been using it for a year now (give or take
a few days), it has saved my hide a lot of times
during that time. Restoring a single file is as easy
as a few taps on the "enter" key (in mc). There are
even scripts for automating daily backups and sending
reports when it's unable to backup some hosts.
More info can be found here: http://www.dirvish.org/
