rdiff-backup rsnapshot dirvish What did they say about skinning a cat? :) All different means to a similar end.
Saving one's butt as Eric put it so aptly. Rsnapshot has saved mine several times over as well. What's the common theme amongst this is that the era of tape based backups are over. Let's face it. Leveraging your backups on tape may be cheap, but when it's time to restore from them, in your most critical hour, experience tells me they will fail you or at the very least, make it damn hard for you to restore! In this hot, and humid climate, unlike disk based backups you never know if the data you wrote to tape is in fact readable by the time you need it. It's a good thing the cost of hard disks have gone down nowadays, and it's so easy to justify a raid 1 array of 750GB with several external USB hard disks for backup purposes. - ian On 5/3/07, eric rosel <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Been using it for a year now (give or take a few days), it has saved my hide a lot of times during that time. Restoring a single file is as easy as a few taps on the "enter" key (in mc). There are even scripts for automating daily backups and sending reports when it's unable to backup some hosts.
