They couldn't actually sue everyone only because if they start suing
Fortunate 500 companies using GNU/Linux, they are pretty much suing
their own customers, and if they start suing small companies and
individuals, their enterprise customers will take it in a bad light.
So the best course of action is not to sue, but to give "protection"
via indemnities, they won't get into legal tussles but still earn
nonetheless (see Novell and MS pact).


I think this is just a "marketing" move from MS. Calculated to make
those who are thinking to move to linux to hesitate or change their
minds.

Like it will actually kill the adoption of linux.

They just don't get that as the whole world watches the milestones of
open source development pass and no successful patent suit, businesses
will still make the switch.

Open source does not even need a counter campaign. We just do what we
have been doing and we win.
