instead of squidguard or run a specialized distro like endian, ipcop,
smoothwall, monowall and pfsense, all of this distro are user friendly
because they are configured via webgui.

Yes, you do. In fact mine contains SMTP using Postfix,
MailScanner, Spamassassin, and ClamAV aside from
Squid........ I also suggest installing
squidview from Dag's repo, for the replacement of
"tail -f /var/log/squid/access.log", the beauty is
that the output is well formatted for your human eyes.

@jan gestre

so i could also opt to install squid on IPCop right? i was thinking it
might be limited to it firewall functionality. If ever could i also
install stuff like MailScanner, Spamassassin, ClamAV etc.?

@Jun Salen

Sir Jun what if i would only install Squid, SquidGuard, MailScanner,
Spamassassin, and ClamAV on my proxy server and i have a separate email server
will the different security scanners will be able to scan incoming mails
passing tru the proxy?

will it be more secure if i run squid on firewall-like distro rather the
typical ones?

thanks for all the great inputs!
