If you use CentOS as mine, i suggest to avoid rpm or
avoid compiling it yourself from tar.gz file. This is
to avoid updating it yourself from time to time. Use
those included with distribution by just issuing "yum
install squid" or verify what you want to install by
just entering "yum search squid", if you want to add
other repo if the base distribution don't have it, add
Dag's/RPMForge repo. If you want to update, just issue
"yum update" and that all. I only compile tar.gz or
install RPM from other source if I do not have any
other option. But that just me.
