Hi, not directly about the operating system but I guess that people into
Linux (or other) databases have encountered this issue before -- capitalization
and spaces in Spanish names -- and am wondering what the 'right'
or 'best' way to handle it is.
For example:
De la Cruz
De La Cruz
Dela Cruz
de la Cruz
dela Cruz
Are there any standards, rules, or policies?
For example, as followed by the Philippine government, religious body,
or phone companies. Or is it a free for all, with no
consistency even within the same institution.
In sorting by alphabetical order, should 'Dela Cruz' be with the Cs or the Ds?
Implementationally, should there be two fields for the LastName,
one for the auxiliary (e.g., Dela) and another for the root (e.g., Cruz)?
(Distinct from a separate field for a 'Jr.', 'Sr.', or a roman numeral.)
