Let me join the thread.

I agree that experience counts a lot when administering systems wether its
Open Source or M$ system. But in the corporate world they always look on
people with actual skills and professional certification from leading
industry. And besides there is probationary period in every company
even someone is hired as a senior staff. If they find you not fit then
you're out

So make sure that you show them the skills that you have then certification
will just be decoration to your name.

And since IT leading certs are globally recognize it gives you
advantage abroad. Here in the Middle East most IT professional are testking
certified(Cisco, M$, Linux etc...) and they are highly paid individuals. As
long as you comply with the task you were given then your ok

When I came here all I have is Linux and M$ experience but these experience
alone wont give me chance of a high paying Job. I was introduced to this
fast track of getting certified(test king) although i have to invest on
exams. And Its worth of a try "as for my experience". Now I enjoy the
benefits and luxury of being certified and I am constantly earning skills I
need with my daily tasks and bunch of tips from google.

cheers!
