Exactly.

i agree. i think Ubuntu is serious but not serious enough about going
for the desktop. i haven't seen the latest ubuntu... the last one i
played with for a bit was in April, i'd say it is at that usability
level of windows 2000 going to xp, just don't go into the consumer-
level space of game playing (and there are great games on linux like
Scorched 3d and solarwolf). i haven't seen anywone play quake or
unreal tournament on linux, but i know it works.

i think RH is half-hearted because they couldn't get money from
desktop users way back when, which is part of the reason why linux
for the desktop consumer user is years behind OS X and i venture to
say, WIndows XP. Most distros are really after the business market,
whereas Apple is after the consumer market so they each approach
things differently as well. And i think part of the reason is also
more into business than technology right now--- it would be futile to
go head-to-head with Microsoft, not without more money and not with a
clear design intention to go after the grandma market and not knowing
that such a war would take considerable amount of money and it might
not be "winnable". Linux can also excel at the next generation
consumer electronics devices that is if someone would be serious
enough to go for it because I fear it will go the same route as Linux
for the Desktop.
