This reminds me of one project I came across sometime ago:  Plan B,
Omero, and Octopus.  The videos[0] I've seen of it shows the use of
multiple pervasive user interfaces and `smart spaces' [1] that
translate physical interactions in the office workspace into tasks in
a distributed computing environment.  Granted, its not Linux, nor does
it have OS X's bling, but its a step near futuristic UIs in the
movies...
