The problem with "official" membership is that it's a huge hassle to pay the dues! it's not the amount of the due itself, it's our "Valuable Free Time" being taken up by something so pedestrian as paying some dues.
Re: paid consulting: bad idea, too much conflicts of interest. Re: job placement: well a "PLUG HR database" might not be such a bad idea. It can be something as simple as having a "PLUG" LinkedIn profile and anybody who wants to be linked to that profile (and whom someone can write a testimonial for...) can be included.
