FWIW, OEL5 x86 (RHEL5 recompiled by Dear Leader Larry's minions) also
fails to install.

re: install from CD: I don't see how this will work. I have a PATA
CD-RW/DVD-ROM and whether I use a CD or DVD, I will use the same
optical drive with presumably the same problems.

I do have OEL5 x86 on my notebook, mayhap I could use it to "Revisor"
the DVD ISO, but again, I don't see how that can help.
