Meron akong i-se-setup na mail server. - CentOS 5.0 - RAID1 - (CentOS software RAID) - Postfix (MTA) - SMTP server - Dovecot (mailbox server) - POP3 serverAng hardware specifications nito ay:- Intel Core 2 Duo 2.2 Ghz - Asus mobo - 2 X 2 Gb = 4 Gb total main memory - 2 X 250 Gb hardisk (2nd hard disk is for stripping) - 480 Watts power supply (dual fan)Questions: 1. Mag-se-sent ng 100K emails a day. Ok ba ang setup (plan) ko? Thanks...
Hardware vs Software RAID:Arguably, HARDWARE RAID is faster since the onboard processor on the card does the parity calculations and etc. The main drawback here is portability, since each card have their own proprietary format for the raid volumes. In addition RAID protocols are limited. Linux Software raid is already mature and is capable of supporting newer RAID systems (RAID 10, RAID 5+1...). Plus portability of the RAID volume. With the your CPU specs, it is more than enough to handle the parity and striping calculations needed to manage a RAID volume. Since you're going to host a POP3 server, I suggest that you have the following modifications:
OS on a separate volume/hard disks (mirror, RAID 1). mailboxes stored on a RAID5 volume. -- Peter Santiago [EMAIL PROTECTED] My website: www.psinergybbs.com My spamtrap address: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
