Hello, I've been using systemimager[1] for network installation. You can use it as will to backup the whole system. It also support torrent, multicast and ssh transports.
Creating image(aka. goldenclient): 1. si_prepareclient --server server --image myimagename Updating system: 2. si_updateclient --server server --image myimagename [1]http://wiki.systemimager.org ----- Original Message ---- From: "david t. asuncion, jr." <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Technical Discussion List <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2008 1:21:19 AM Subject: Re: [plug] backup system to ISO image Noob here. I would suggest looking at an archival storage solution like Venti-backup[0], which can enable you to do daily snapshots of your server filesystem to a remote Venti[1] server (whose arena partitions you can burn to CD/DVD, as soon as you fill up one, as Venti also coalesce duplicate used blocks for free due to its content-addressing approach to storage.) Recovery is almost always just an easy mount of the remote Venti (as an NFSv3 server,) selecting the snapshot to use (e.g. 2008/0923) and a recursive copy. If you find that too way over your head (I admit its a very Plan 9-ish way of doing it, but its very solid, and the sources tree has it running for the last 6 years now,) you can also try glastree[2] or pdumpfs[3] which work in similar ways (except they don't do block coalescing, as they back up at the filesystem level.) There's also the upcoming Foundation,[4] but it has yet to be presented at USENIX.
