Linux mksysb looks like a dead project but could be a nice operating system
resource (OSR) backup use in AIX. Restoration is usually done via NIM
(Network Installation Management) which is very much like kickstart. This is
an SOP for AIX disater recovery which is also widely use in Linux-PPC world,
NIMOL.

OTOH, if you are using and /or booting on SAN, a regular cloning of the
system will be the most efficient way of back up especially in this days of
cheaper storage devices.
