I think I have a similar setup. (but no domain logons for samba)
My setup:
I am using CentOS 4 and Fedora directory server (used by dovecot, squid,
postfix and samba for account authentication and other lookups).
Other than that, an in-house PHP app for the creation/deletion and query
of user accounts.
