Doc,
Your needs can be met by the Asus eeepc 1000HE aka as 1khe... been
using it for a few months, and no major complaints so far.
* six-cell battery leading to manufacturer claim of 9.5 hours. mix
test on my end at auto
power management is at respectable 7.5 hours.... enough for a day
of work without charging.
Since the 6 cell was designed from inception and not just an
add-on, it blends in the netbook fine and does not fall off.
* 1024x768 compress mode feature. Native resolution though is still 1024x600.
* chicklet style keyboard ala mac keyboards.
* Atom at 1.66Ghz. poky at best, but great for light computing.
* The matte screen. One of a few netbooks where the screen is not
glossy. For one reason or another, It's spooky looking at
myself the whole day :)
* unbelievable readability even at 30% brightness. This saves power as well.
* 92% keyboard layout
The cons IMHO, which are Netbook general issue anyway, is the cramped
10.2" screen. For me, the
13"+ is the comfortable screen size that I can work for a day. The
10.2" are fine for
a few hours.
