I've been using an OLPC XO-1 booting to the SD card with Ubuntu for
quite some time and I must admit that despite the very limited
resource this machine has, the resolution and the battery life is just
great. With the 7.5" LCD churning out 1200x900 plus you have dual
modes (backlit color/direct sunlight greyscale) every site I go to
seems to fit well. The battery usually lasts 4-5 hours with the LCD
brightness cranked up and wifi signal is pretty darn strong.

Unfortunately, the CPU is a dog and the memory is only at 256MB. There
isn't much to do here except use it as an internet terminal for common
use and flash/heavy ajax wil make everything crawl. But then, I'm not
complaining since its a first generation device. Hopefully, the
hardware refresh will make things much better in terms of speed and
performance (crossing fingers).

I noticed one thing that the XO-1 is unique at, as a netbook which I
think the rest should have done as well - the mainboard and LCD is in
the same casing on top while the keyboard and battery is located at
the bottom which makes it thinner and pretty much no heat generated at
all (the battery itself is of different chemical composition) which
makes it really useful on your lap. I'm not sure this is possible
though with the Atom powered chips.
