I have no idea how long it would take the Supreme Court to arrive at a decision on the petition for mandamus. COMELEC, on the other hand, has spies inside the Supreme Court, and they would know ahead of time what the decision would be. Remember that Chairman Melo was from the Supreme Court? In the Harry Roque case, Chairman Melo announced the Supreme Court decision days ahead of the SC announcement, and he got away scott-free without even a contempt-of-court case filed against him.
