i've found an interesting tradeoff between screen real-estate (in sheer
number of pixels) and monitor/pixel size. My primary use is running
Eclipse and other development tools, plus the usual web/email/office
stuff; i rarely watch movies. My personal laptop has a 17" display with
native resolution of 1920 x 1200. My 24" deskop monitor at work has the
same pixel dimensions but larger pixels. Both are quite sharp and easy
on the eyes - i squeeze a little more effective size out of the larger
one by using smaller fonts. At the office, i tried using a second
1200x1024 monitor but found that the amount of head-turning required to
use both displays was uncomfortable. Two 17" 1920 x 1200 displays might
be interesting, but a single large display + gnome's multiple desktops
feels more ergonomic than any other setup i've tried.
