Starting it with cvlc enables the dummy interface. For your terminal window, vlc -f --xvideo-display :0 -I rc will give you a text-based control panel. Then all you need to do is type add /path/to/video to start a movie. Typing help will show you all the available commands. > But the terminal window says there was an error.
