Dick, An alternative to what others suggested is to use pdftk to burst the pdf file into individual pages. You can reassemble it in a new order if you wish, or use 'convert' to copy them to a different graphic format. You can also take the separate pages and run them through jocr (the optical character recognition software), clean that up, and do whatever you wish with the resulting text file.
