Something is really screwy here. I replaced NetworkManager with wicd and
rebooted. As a user I run 'wicd-client -n' and get a nice GTK GUI box
showing all wireless APs around the neighborhood. Ours is at the top with
100% connectivity. However, trying to connect fails. According to
wicd-client, it's a bad password, but it's the same one I use on my Dell to
access the local AP.

   The properties tab for our wireless AP lets me specify static IP address;
whether I do makes no difference in connecting. It also has two choices for
WAP2 security: password and preshared key. Again, it doesn't matter which I
select, the entered shared kay won't work.

   This makes no sense to me. The same shared key/password works on the Dell
running Slackware-current, but won't on the Toshiba Satellite running
xubuntu-10.10.

   Is there anything other than replacing Xubuntu with Slackware that might
fix the problem?
