Bill,

   AFAIK, it wants the plain-text passphrase and converts that into the key
behind the scenes. I entered the same string on the Asus AP and the Dell as
I did now on the Toshiba.

   BTW, wicd provides more information on what it's doing than does
NetworkManager.

   I am searching for the 'elsewhere.'
