Cut 'em a little slack. <oh god, bad pun not intended, i swear> Dell is miles ahead of most vendors by offering Linux firmware upgrade tools at all, even if they're unsupported. I'd bet that it is troublesome to get new platforms for BIOS flashing validated/approved, as there's a high potential for bricking your customer's device. Not to mention the variety of distros to track. I'm sure Slackware does not make the cut when figuring out what OSs to pay attention to. "Slack-what?" The margins that consumer laptops operate at demand that they pay no attention to you. HP has bootable CDs (and you can construct bootable USB images, with a Windows tool, of course) that will update BIOS, BMC, storage controllers, at least for the DL series. That's a reasonable approach for a vendor, IMHO. -- Dan Young _______________________________________________ PLUG mailing list [email protected] http://lists.pdxlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/plug
