With a DiMax Grex I am able to copy Disney VHS tapes to burnable DVDs.
Can I go from the burnt DVD to a file on a Linux server and if so, how?

Legally speaking, do I have to keep the original VHS tapes when done?
There is plenty of room in an attic area, but the temperature can exceed
100 degrees farenheit. I don't know if a small cooler room can be built
up there or not.

My father is catching on that I plan on setting up a server and has
asked for one step up, he has asked that I password protect any movie
that is not rated G potentially. How do I set up password protection in
Apache? Just so folks know, I typically php script when I need to do
something fancy.

Another problematic area is what to connect to the television and how to
set up Linux. I haven't been able to get Fedora to work with an HDTV.
Is there a particular video card I want? Is there a particular computer
I should be looking at that has proper video support built in? Atom
boards don't typically. My brother-in-law says to use some kind of
Apple computer that is intended for connection to a television. I have
a Pentium 4 running XP, but I want to get away from that for 2 reasons.
Reason 1 is a size issue. Reason 2, Windows can't be network booted and
almost needs a battery backup unit connected. I want a remote for the
computer even if I have to build one. The remote should be able to
start firefox and allow you to browse a web page for the movie you want
to watch.
