Thanks for responding.

Depends. If I attempt to boot from a known good hard disk, the boot
loader indicates that it's Loading Linux, but when it attempts to boot
the kernel, screens full of stuff like:
[0.394166] [<c19da8f3>] panic+0x5c/0x14d
[0.394207] [<c104682c>] do_exit+0x72c/0x730
[0.394247] [<c19daa01>] ? printk+0x1d/0x1f
......

If I attempt to install from CDROM to a hard disk, the installer message
comes up, Welcome to Slackware bla bla, gives me options to pass extra
parameters to the kernel and to select a kernel such as hugesmp.s
No matter which kernel I select, the loader will load the kernel, load
initrd but as soon it attempts to boot the kernel, a few screenfulls of
stuff scroll by ending with:
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!

No, as I indicated below, OpenSuse 11.3 64 bit will live CD will will
run and seems to run just fine. OpenSuse 11.3 32 bit will not
successfully boot the kernel.

Are you successfully running a 32 bit Linux on a Phenom II X6?
