Eventually, but not today, I'd like to understand why lpr works with the LaserJet 5 but not with the Color LaserJet 2550L. To satisfly my insatiable curiosity.
Both are network nodes. The LJ5 has an internal JetDirect card and has IP address 192.168.55.192. The CLJ2550 has an external JetDirect 300x (cat5 input, Centronics parallel cable output) and an IP address of 192.168.55.194. In my ignorance, the only obvious difference is whether the JetDirect is an external server or an internal card. Where might I learn why that would make a difference in response to printing using lpr?
