Well for starters when printing with lpr you may need to specify the 'queue'
name to print to. HP uses raw, raw1, raw2, raw3, text, text1, text2, text3,
TEXT, TEXT1, TEXT2, TEXT3, RAW, RAW1, RAW2 RAW3, auto, auto1, auto2, auto3
binps and d1prn  depending on the model and the interface.

Don't know what kind if any firewalling you have internal but lpd uses port
515 where a lot of PJL/PCL printers use 9100
