Thanks but ...

Before this gets too far: no, we are not going to run windows
apps, under wine or vmware or native. The windows security
model, and the programs designed for it, is awful. Perhaps
there are people who are competent to maintain windows app
security, but I am not one of them. I'd rather eat glue:

This is for a medical office - HIPAA is growing an
enforcement arm, and the consequences of a security
breach can be bankruptcy and prison time.

The postage programs reach out over the internet to the USPS,
making them a path for malware. I am semicompetent to keep
malware out of a Linux system. I can hire others who can do
an excellent job. The Mac/BSD security model is robust, and
similar enough to Linux to learn quickly.

Either native Linux apps, or Mac if we have to. A Pitney-Bowes
meter is time consuming and expensive, but if the alternative
is a Windows program, a meter is damned difficult to zombie.

If someone wants to buy one of the windoze programs, wrap it
inside a web app, and sell me PNG postage images over the
net, I'll buy from them, and let them manage the security
issues. Why buy the cow ... ?
